It looks like the stuff I use (Spice World) contains only garlic water and a little citric acid.

I really dont know the answer to that Brian. The stuff I use doesnt leave a noticable residue on the water surface so I dont perceive that as a down side. Now as for how the fish deal with any oils, I dont really know. I will have to have a look at the brand I use, Im not sure if it has oil or not.

Interesting food for thought.

Hey Paul,

I was using the grocery store garlic and stopped after reading the oil it contains. Your post made me plop a hunk of it in a little water with some pellets for dinner (for the fish of course) tonight. I know olive oil is "heart healthy" for humans, any added benefit or concerns with the oil in this type of garlic for the tank?

Hi Scott,

Yes the theraA has garlic in it, but I have no idea how much or whether the active ingredient is still active or not. Any extra garlic from the food itself will certainly help tho.

Thera from New Life already contains Garlic. The bottle you have should read "Non-Medicated Anti-Parasitic Formula" in the upper silver band on the label.

An alternative is to use Liquid Kyolic, which is a garlic extract sold in health food stores. Add a few drops to frozen food cubes or chunks while it is defrosting. Optionally, also add a few drops of Selco, and you have powerful mix of immune booster and essential Huffa/vitamins.

This is a good post the only thong that I would add as a cook us that the compounds created by cutting up garlic are volitile(they evaporate). This should be noted when preparing your food.
