LEDControl1 is an LED controller from ProFilux

LED-control-1-ProFilux

One of the newest additions to the GHL ProfiLux line is the LEDControl1; a driver and dimmable control unit all in one. The LEDControl1 allows you you to dim your LED lighting with a cap at 700 mA and maximum voltage of 20VDC with a 1-10V-interface of the ProfiLux. Off the shelf, these units have plugs and sockets compatible to Aquaray LED lights including the AquaBeam 1000 HD Ultra LED lighting system but should be easily modified to fit your current (compatible) lighting system. With the slew of LED lighting hitting the market in all shapes and sizes, this is a pretty inexpensive control unit to give ProfiLux owners some control on some forms of LEDs. One thing to take into consideration is that if you like pushing your LEDs to their limits, you may require a current greater than the 700 mA this controller is rated at. For example, the Cree XR-E lamps can run up to three watts with 1,000 mA so you may not be able to get the maximum lighting “oomph” out of the Cree’s but at 700 mA they would run a lot more efficiently and in turn increasing their lifespan. No word about availability in North America but the units are available in the UK and Europe for around £ 34.49 (about $56.67 USD).

    Hi Brian,

GHL has really taken the market for both main stream LED control and DIY, we are seeing more and more reefers using Profilux as the control option for their DIY products, and GHL keeping rising to the challenge of releasing more options for everyone to use.

GHL now can control pretty much any lighting thrown at it within dimmable technology whether that be simple 1-10V right through to Dali interfacing.

Watch out in the next year for the first profiLux dimmable MH ballast too ;)

I don’t mind vendor ads, thats the purpose here, just introduce yourself properly. :>

I’d like a 40 VDC version. Are all LED’s dimmable?

I will change my name bar :)

All LEDS have the ability to be dimmable it just depends on how you drive them.

If you follow this link you will find lots of info on different options

iggy LEDs are dimmable you just can’t simply vary the current running through them like a traditional light bulb. I did a lot of research a while back on creatin manually dimmable moonlights and the secret sauce is in pulse width modulation (PWM). There are lots of projects out there using simple IC 555 timers to accomplish this…Now if you want to control it with an aquarium controller, I’m sure its do-able and I’m sure some DIY nuts have found ways to “git er done.”

Actually, varying the current through an LED is exactly the way you dim an LED. A light bulb is dimmed by changing the voltage.

Straight PWM works, but a true buck topology driver is a far more efficient and reliable way of driving LEDs. This is what is being used in many drivers, including the GHL unit above.

Doooh! You got me there Clive, meant voltage. It’s been nearly 20 years since I had to put my electronics training in action LOL

I am running 2 – 20 watt LED Tubes from IceCap with one 40 VDC adapter. In the near future I’d like to run them with 1-10V control. Above unit is ideal, except I’d need to rewire with two units. At that cost I wouldn’t consider a DIY project.

Any chance a 40 VDC will be released?

I will talk to GHL, right now they have their hands tied up in the ProfiLux 3 release, new firmware is being driven out daily at the moment.

But for sure this is something GHL will be interested in with their continued support

What I would suggest highly is joining the forum here http://www.aquariumcomputer.com/forum and enter into the ongoing development suggestions to GHL directly

Thanks GHL could use a larger rated dimmer. Many are now 5-40VDC variable.

Here is a manual version that is PWM complaint between transformer and light:
