Fauna Marin blue line skimmer seen, available in January

Fauna Marin has new skimmers in the works, possibly named after their Blue Line of skimmers. These blue line skimmers are said to be 100% serviceable, all parts are removable for cleaning which Fauna Marin is touting as one of the first in the industry. The skimmers are powered by Aqua Bee pumps  fitted with modified mesh wheels, but a series of different wheel styles will be available for people to choose what they prefer the most. The skimmer body is manufactured with German produced acrylic and the Fauna Marin skimmer units are made in Germany. Reviewers seem to like the new skimers as one stated:

the skimmer is now up and running early results are very promising and being able to completely strip the skimmer down is a god send and it was very easy to set up too,i had my doubts when i see the foam impeller but the air it produces is very fine and the air though the diffuser plate is incredible smooth with very little turbulence within he skimmer body, this is a prototype i believe, as is the impeller design for me to try ,but my early thought are that this back to basics skimmer with minimal turbulence and long contact time will perform extremely well

These will be sold in North America for the first 6 months and after will start to sell to dealers across the world. Expect this new skimmer to be available at the end of January with a soon to be released price.

  1. That thing is awefully pencil-necked. The fact that this company would manufacture this skimmer for sale without researching skimmer technology enough to know that the neck is WAYYYY to small for that body shows that it’s a waste of acrylic and anybody’s time and money considering it. Junk….

  2. Hilarious comment :)

Do you really think FM know nothing about skimmers? FM have been making skimmers for years and are one of the leading brands across Europe for both efficiency and technology.

The skimmer you see in the photos is also the prototype and various changes are being made prior to release including a different pump to keep the USA clients happy, although I prefer the unit to stay with the trusted Aqua Bee.

Least the unit wont come with a cruddy Chinese pump :)

Aqua Digital Inc – I find that comment equally hilarious. There is not anything new to this skimmer. As doe efficiency and technology, there are other pumps that have proven to be more efficient and there is not one thing on that skimmer that is new technology. It acutually is behind the times unless you are still hangin on to the early 2000 skimmer designs. I can change a couple words in your statement and thow in company names like Coralife, Red Sea, SeaClone, ect… and make the same argument.

I’m actually disappointed in what I see. I feel the previous design (similar to the ATI Bubble Master) was a better design, although nealy identical to the ATI with the eception of the pump. I’m not a big fan of Aquabee pumps (exception being the AB 5000 because it is a beast!) as they are very hard to get replacement parts here in the US. I think Eheim might be a better choice. I also hope they choose needle wheel as most do not want the maintenance associated with mesh wheel impellers.

  4. As I said above, in regards to the pump, FM are looking at providing a better pump for the USA market.

As I also said on RB only two days ago, I personally think the skimmer market in NA is flooded and it is hard to offer something that has not been done or tried before, however Claude has taken a direct approach more on what has been proven to work and then build quality into the product. No he does not pertain the skimmer to be “the world saviour of all things skimmable” but he puts his efforts into pure build quality and proven functionality.

Put it another way the FM skimmer is not trying to re-invent the wheel, but instead build a comfortable ride into it with long service intervals and durability.

Furthemore as stated before you are looking at a protype ;)

I think there will also be an element of negativity because it directly falls into the same market catagory of some well known heavily market protected (various) brands.

  5. Hi Kent

Thanks for your opinion, after now 25 years in this buisness i know how to create
    technical parts.
I was the first with automatical Zeoreactors and also i developed for many other company products which you buy today also.
Iám wondering why you make such a trouble befor testing yourself the product.
That what you see is the first prototype which goes to england and which use a special wheel.
So let the guy play and see what is coming in the next weeks
( some neck if Cone Skimmers are smaller ;-)

  6. HI Greg

There is not much to make in skimmers new or better like the skimmers which are made today.
The new design works better as the old one , ist is now complete cleanable and
for the USA we made another pumps system. ( which is not a chinese pump )
The Eheim pumps has some problems which the Aquabee makes better
( thats the reason for HS and Deltec to use Aquabee )
I did not design the skimmers as a new hype supermodern style which others has at the moment also
I only make a skimmer for my range which works without any issues , easy to clean
very stabil and made for long time run.
It was not the concept to create a completly new hype
for that we have the automatical zeolithreactor which comes in the next days´s

  7. As sample you see here a comment of one of the testers

“The skimmer is now up and running early results are very promising and being able to completely strip the skimmer down is god send and it was very easy to set up too,i had my doubts when i see the foam impeller but the air it produces is very fine and the air though the diffuser plate is incredible smooth with very little turbulence within he skimmer body, this is a prototype i believe, as is the impeller design for me to try ,but my early thought are that this back to basics skimmer with minimal turbulence and long contact time will perform extremely well”

  8. I didn’t comment on the quality of the skimmer one way or the other. The reaction chamber reducing that significantly int othe neck puts too much back pressure on the foam head and restricts the full potential of the skimmer. That’s just plain kindergarten science! FM has put out some great stuff which is why I’m dissappointed in this particular product. They can and should do better. Nobody is asking for anything ground breaking. It would be extremely tough to do that at this point but at least take advantage of the advances in protein skimming knowledge to make the dkimmer as effective and efficient as possible, not just easy to take apart. Widen the neck and give it a more gradual decline in reducer diameter and you’ve got a winner. I’ve spent more then enough time building this kinda stuff and was wize enough to recognize the the inefficient design after the fact so I can improve on the designs I build in the future…

  9. Hi Kent

    Thanks for your comments :-)
When the skimmer is coming on the market you can be sure that all sizes are
    so effency as possible.
It is to early to react on a prototype for a special wheel
to the Sales Series , cause the sales series had a lot of
    differences to the prototypes.
    Merry christmas claude

  10. Hi Claude,

When will these skimmers be commercialised in the UK – they look great!
