Oceanic’s new BioCube HQI Metal Halide nano aquarium

17

Oceanic has updated their Biocube nano aquarium series to incorporate a  double ended or “HQI” Metal Halide. This Biocube series has been popular with the nano aquarium crowd and Oceanic has taken it upon themselves to offer a few other upgrades. Towards the back of the aquarium you have the option to run a refugium with a built in area to attach some sort of light (ideally theirs) to grow cheato. The top of the Biocube is a sliver of glass which to us gives us the feeling that a lot of heat will be trapped in the new nano BioCube aquarium. The aquarium does include a skimmer although its powered by an air-stone (gasp!) which is the standard issue BioCube skimmer. Interestingly Oceanic has several different upgrade options including a small Oceanic BioCube Circulation Pump, Mini Ultraviolet Sterilizer, Submersible Mini Hydrometer and a BioCube 29 Stand. We’ve got additional pictures below the break and expect a around $550 MSRP for this new nano aquarium.

Biocube HQI offers an aesthetically appealing design and high quality components that make reef-keeping easier and rewarding. The key component is the HQI metal halide light which provides the high intensity lumen output preferred by reef-keeping enthusiasts. Now you can create a thriving coral reef with a broad variety of organisms including small polyp stony (SPS) corals and Tridacna clams.

Healthy reef-keeping also requires proper filtration and Biocube HQI has everything you need including a protein skimmer for removing harmful organic waste, a refugium chamber for establishing biological filtration and a replaceable filter cartridge to eliminate particulate matter.

Since a thriving coral reef is a beautiful reef, Biocube HQI includes a clear glass canopy for showcasing you aquatic masterpiece. The canopy is easily removed for stocking, water changes, and routine maintenance.

It’s about time. They were showing this tank at MACNA last year. Looked great, but I was expecting an announcement to come sooner than this.

    looks kinda nice.
Is the glass top supposed to be the UV shield for the HQI bulb? Doesn’t look like the fixture has one.
