EcoReef One, second preview

By on Mar 29, 2010

Here is another preview video of EcoReef One, a live rock-less, LED-lit five gallon nano cube that lives off of an average of 20 watts of power consumption and water changes. This is indeed a video, see the harlequin shrimp moving on the bottom of the tank of the right pane. The flow was temporarily turned off for the sake of this video. Full details of EcoReef One coming up in the next issue of Advanced Aquarist.

I assume the choice to not use live rock is part of the eco-friendliness, avoiding wild collection. Is it safe to assume all livestock is aquacultured in that case?

the choice to use ceramic was as much for the performance of the reef, as well as the presumably more eco-friendly choice. I would say that the coral stock is 50% captive raised, 25% maricultured and 25% wild harvested.

Looks like a pile of rock aquascape to me. Where’s the bonsai??? Considering I don’t know anyone propogating scolymia, I think your 25% wild number may be a little low :)

Frigging sweet little box of water though!
