Vortech MP60 comparing betas to betas part deux

vortech MP60

The Vortech MP60 is one of the biggest product announcements here at MACNA but we wouldn’t be Reef Builders if we hadn’t been testing out a beta version of the Vortech MP60 beforehand. The Vortech MP60 is a pump who’s time has come. The MP60 is an air-cooled beast of a water pump which flows up to 5,500 gallons per hour while consuming just 60 watts. Just like we did with the beta Vortech MP10, we’ve stacked the pre-production Vortech MP60 against the fit and finish of early designs of previous Vortech models.

The Vortech MP60 may have a much higher flow capacity than the Vortech MP40 but as you can see it really isn’t that much larger than it’s predecessor. The wetside most closely resembles a scaled up MP10, with the same dual-bearing wear surfaces.

The Vortech MP60 wetside has a larger base diameter even if the outflow nozzle is about the same diameter.

Even if the MP60 wetside doesnt appear to be that much larger than the MP40, the magnet inside and the propeller are significantly beefier.  vortech MP60

hmmm why is it that the MP40 was the only one that had that god awful spacer with those rubber “pins” that bent if you looked at them funny.

Curious if they increased the tank thickness though, 3/4″ was the nail in the coffin for quite a few people.

Either way, looks good, although I know I won’t be able to stomach however much they charge for it.
