I wonder if that fan cooling might actually cause premature wear. As some of us might have tanks in an enclosed “fish room” or other more humid than normal area, pulling in moist air I hope wouldn’t cause premature rusting on the interior. The others even though they do get hot to the touch really don’t have to worry about the internal guts getting rusted out.

Nice video of the pump, was it too hard to show the flow on that tank? how large is the tank it is being displayed on. Maybe you can walk back by and take a video showing us what it can do, have the guy do a demo.

Yeah, I was more interested in seeing how it moved water, not what it looked like.

How can Ecotech be working on another ES pump when I am still waiting a replacement for two ES drivers on the MP40w as they were released with the upgraded features not working correctly. To see them already working on another pump when I do not have the original ES pump working correctly is a disgrace!

For those that do not know. The original ES driver upgrades for the MP40w pumps have been known to be lacking the autotune feature and the night time mode is poorly timed. My night time mode has gradually shifted to the daytime midday. Still awaiting a replacement for upgrading to anew driver which doesn’t work as advertised.

Jake is testing one on my 1200 gal reef with the gyre flow. I am impressed. It moves alot more water than two MP40W and creates a great undertow. Hopefully Jake will post some pics. I’m in…great job Ecotech. Steve Hurlock Evergreen, Co

    Andrew-

If you are having problems with your night mode drifting over time, please contact our support on Monday and we’ll get it taken care of. As for your comment about not having the auto-tune functionality, I’ve not once heard of this problem, but when you call in we can walk you through the process of using this function and get you taken care of.

    Mike-

Most centrifugal pumps also have fan cooling and run great for years. We will recommend periodic maintenance in the form of blowing out any dust that may collect.

How is the noise.. The only that has stopped me from getting the MP40 is that a lot of people complain about noise of these when compared to the Tunze’s. Is this quieter or as quiet as a 6200?

I spent some time observing this pump run on display this weekend. Very close if not near silent even with the fan running. Awesome flow and control as expected. Great job guys!!!

    Tim @Ecotech:

Aleady contacted Ecotech numerous times before.
Was contacted a couple days ago to advise replacements would be sent this week.
Fingers crossed it will be sorted.
As for autotune…. followed instructions as stated in the full downloadable manual and nothing working as stated. I can assure you autotune doesn’t work and not the only one to note this with boards that have faulty timing settings etc.

Fingers crossed replacements are sent this week as stated and issues resolved.

    Mike:

The MP40 are noisey. I don’t know anyone who runs them at more than 60% speed as the motor is far too noticable at any other speed and gets far to hot imo. That’s a genral opinon from a large consensus of people from the Reef Forum I am actice in.

    Andrew,

Since you’re a UK customer it’s not our typical protocol to service you directly as we have international distributors who take care of this leg of our service for us. However, in certain circumstances we are happy to extend help from over here to ensure that you’re taken care of.

Again, regarding the auto-tune we have not had a single customer report this problem to us and so I believe there may be some mistake occurring with the procedural element to implementing the auto-tune function. If you’re able to give us a call here within the US, we’d be happy to walk you through the process.

In regards to your statement about the noise we respect your opinion and recognize that for some customers noise can be a concern when selecting pumps. The VorTech pump is a magnetically coupled, air-cooled external motor technology. There will always be pluses and minuses to any technology and we and many of our happy customers feel strongly that this technology is very effective at what it does.

I’m excited to work to ensure that you feel the same way. In an effort to accomplish this, I ask that we take this conversation between you and our service department so that we are better able to help you solve your issue.

Can I get a Vectored Thrust version? Then I could use magnetic coupled actuators (coupled through the glass like the main motor) to adjust the direction and spread of the flow with nozzle control. You could make similar to the jets, but with holes/intake mesh around the thick part of course, then when the nozzles move around, they would scrape the crud off the intake screen as well. Just like on a Mig or Su…

Or Ill just buy one of these and try it myself…
