The royal fairy basslet, Lipogramma klayi, is a rare deepwater Caribbean reef fish with a prohibitive price tag. Very few of the Lipogramma klayi collected in Curacao are offered in the US since Asian reef fish collectors are much more willign to pay top dollar for tiny fish. This isn’t the first video of the royal fairy basslet that we’ve shared as Reborn Aquarium made a video featuring a pair of Lipogramma klayi last year. Today’s royal fairy basslet video comes from the usual suspects at Blue Harbor, Japan and we imagine Koji Wada was excitedly feeding this klayi basslet while the video was being made.

It looks like a royal gramma except not as brilliantly colored and with a funky head. I love the dejongi basslets, but this doesn’t do it for me.
