If you are drinking something, you’ll probably want to set it down before you watch this video of the Carp hunters. The “water-skiing ninjas’ apparently have a grudge against the invasive asian carp which have grown to enormous numbers in the Mississippi river. One particularly annoying and even dangerous fact about Asian carp: they jump out of water when they are startled and they have been known to hit people riding in fast-moving boats and waterskiis. There’s more than a handful of reports of broken jaws and black eyes from the airborne carp.

Armed with spiked gear and makeshift swords, the Carp Hunters looked like they were pulled off the set of Mad Max to perform in a stunt for MTV’s Jack@ss. For all their efforts at spiky armor and serrated edges, it seems like the carp hunters spend most of their time trying to stay upright in the wake of the flying asian carp and occasionally reveling in one or two successful strikes. We’ve seen people take extreme action against invasive fish before, as in the case of the many roundups of the invasive lionfish in the Western Atlantic, but we can’t help but think it’s only a matter of time before the carp hunters hurt themselves really bad.
