LGMAquari shows off new HOB skimmer at Zoomark

By on Jun 07, 2011

Italian manufacturer LGMAquari is bringing a few new products to market including a new HOB skimmer at the Italian pet tradeshow Zoomark International 2011 held in Bologna in May. We have seen some of the simple designs from LGMAquari in the past and the company is more bringing clean, simple and solidly constructed products to market. Thanks to Italian blogger Danilo Ronchi of DaniReef for sharing the goodies he discovered at Zoomark.

The HOB skimmer from LGMAquari features using a few methods to help reduce unwanted vibrations between the skimmer and tank. Using “feet” to quiet vibrations against the aquarium and suspending the skimmer pump inside the reaction chamber both help reduce excess noise. Built entirely of acrylic and PVC and using an open bottom reaction tube design within a hang on “box” the LGMAquari HOB skimmer appears to use both a feed pump and aspirator pump to create the foam for fractitioning. To help prevent excess bubbles returning to the display aquarium, the LGMAquari skimmer uses baffle between the main chamber and the return.

We aren’t certain the exact size of the skimmer and the tank its rated for but we would easily see this working well on aquariums from 15 gallons on up to possibly 40 or so gallons depending on stocking levels. It will be interesting to see this design mature and get feedback from the field in the future. Price and availably are unknown right now.

How about some info on that light??

Agreed.  It looks like a somewhat like the Vitrea led light, with glass housing around the heatsink.  I saw them last year at MACNA, and without a doubt, the Vitrea units are the sharpest, cleanest, best-looking LED units available.  They are absolutely gorgeous and highly controllable. I think they used a mixture of regular and RGB led’s, so you could easily fine-tune the color to exactly what you want.  It was such a good-looking light, and I would have bought one right there if it wasn’t for the price.  But, again, those lights were damn good-looking.
