Tricolor Scopas strikes again

The large mutated tricolor scopas tang just pulled up in Bali by Neptune Fish is the nicest tricolor surgeonfish we’ve seen since we featured the nice tricolor scopas tang from Southwest Marines, UK. This particular tricolor scopas has a striking yellow edge to its dorsal and anal fin giving the outline of this fish the appearance of a corona. The unusual Zebrasoma scopas like so many before him is of an exceptionally large size, lending credence to the aberrant coloration being a developmental condition that is more pronounced with age and size. In fact, most of the jumbo scopas tangs we’ve ever seen show some degree of aberrant coloration, although not necessarily with such obvious bold white and yellow piebald patches.

Am I the only one that finds videos of photos annoying?

I’m sorry you feel that way. The images used in this and other videos are often too large for us to just post without feeling a bandwidth pinch. So either I show the fine details of larger images via a video, or I post a smaller and compressed versions of the images which don’t really show some aspects of what makes a fish interesting.
