“Tanked” – Animal Planet soon rolling out new aquarium reality show

By on Jul 06, 2011

In case you missed the memo, reality shows are pretty darn popular and the aquarium industry is going to get its taste of reality with the upcoming show “Tanked” airing on the Animal Planet this fall. The six-part series focuses on a Las Vegas-based company Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM), whose owners  build tanks and aquariums for “celebrities, luxury hotels, Fortune 500 businesses, private homes and millionaire homeowners.”

The show will showcase the company owned and operated by Wayde King and Brett Raymer and will most likely follow a similar format to shows like American Restorations, highlighting a family business, interesting builds and flashy, big reveals at the end. Tanked debuts August 19 at 10 p.m. EST. Thanks Andy!

Is this going to be a drama like all other “reality” shows. I can just see it now, sex, drugs, fighting, and really big fish tanks. Just the name “Tanked”. LOL I guess it’s better that the one about sand castles.

Let’s hope the name of the show doesn’t invite the comparison with its ratings when it comes out.

Funny. I went and visited some principles there to show off my ICA in 2005. They are a cool group of guys.

Just when you thought “nemo and dori” has been forgotten…

maybe not the sex and drugs but I can see it… reality shows aren’t hot right now because people want to see a trade being done.. people watch Pawn Stars because they want to see the bickering and arguing within the family.. and to watch the guy counter a $10000 object down to $2000.

I’ll watch the show because I’m curious in seeing how big tanks really are put together, however if it is just the social aspect of the show, I won’t mind one bit if the show TANKS

i rather watch the other reality show called nano’d…

    LOL…

but srsly… this is dumb… but, i see what they’re trying to do… just like the stupid mike tyson “pigeon” reality tv show, this is going to increase the hobby in a good way… all kinds of newbs are going to see “pro’s” do it all easy and well… guess what they’re going to do… so i guess there will be a silver lining to this horrible mushroom cloud of a reality show…

I hear a certain, sometime contributer to RB will be on the show…

Silver lining? I see a surge of 1000′s more dead wild caught fish right after this show starts to air, just like after Nemo came out, thousands of dead Dori’s in 20G tanks. Unless this is going to be an educational show on how to properly stock and maintain an aquarium by showing all the methods known to work well (ATS, Skimmer, Bio-Pellets, etc) all I see coming out of this is a whole lot of newbies with no clue what they are doing killing thousands of fish and even corals all because some “reality show” on TV made it look easy. I would much rather see 1. TLC actually start meaning “The Learning Channel” again and 2. Put shows of this nature on that channel in an educational format, not a reality format. One can dream for a brighter future for our fish friends.

There should be some sort of suggestion box. i think it would be quite swell to see a fish tank in a pool table.

Man Itz a whole lot of fish out there

The show doesn’t give the hobby any justice!! All they use is fake corals and fake live rock.  Yea, I admit that they have a lot of cool fish and tanks, but other then that, not a real reefer show.

I love it when people question the intelligence of an argument by using a logical fallacy. To educated eyes, all you did was reinforce his point.

I really wish we could keep this out of our community.

These guys give the hobby a big black eye. They lied and were booed at the MACNA meeting in vegas, they have a “D” rating with the BBB, their phone booth tank was on e-bay for sale 3 weeks after being aired and have no regards for the life. They use tap water with magic drops and dump boxes full of fish in tanks. I do not like the drama they create. The tanks ran on canister filters are a joke and the way they pull the fish out of water at E.R.I., let’s me know why all my fish died from there. Shame on all of them, it could have been a great show if they would have done it the right way, but of course that would not make for good t.v. Too bad it’s all about ratings. I agree with the bbb, and give them a “D” rating too.
