Diablo cone skimmer coming in October from Reef Octopus

7

The Diablo Cone Skimmer from Reef Octopus is a new protein remover with that familiar tapering cone shape that has come to dominate many new skimmer designs. We first spied an completely different version of the Diablo cone skimmer back in March and the configuration of it has completely changed. An internally mounted Sicce PSK 2500 needle wheel pump helps the Diablo Cone Skimmer reasonably handle wastes in marine aquariums from 180 to 300 gallons.

The Diablo Cone Skimmer is big on features like an integrated bubble plate, a high quality PVC gate valve, silencer and a pressure-fitted neck for easy removal of the cup. However, the Reef Octopus Diablo skimmer is small where it counts like a sub 24 inch height, a 11 x 9 inch footprint and most of all, a cute price that barely grazes the $300 mark. The Diablo cone skimmer should land at aquarium stores in October where we’re sure it’ll perform just as well as any other protein skimmer with the heart of a Sicce needle wheel pump.

umm… where did you find the 1500 L/Hr rating on the Sicce PSK 2500?  ATB can only squeeze 29 scfh… Everyone else rates it at 650-900 L/Hr… whats with doubling the ratings Jake?  Cause if it’s true, I’m buying that pump to upgrade my Vertex…  1500 L/Hr and what like 21w power draw…  yum!

Is there really no baseplate on the bottom of this skimmer? That actually makes sense to me, as long as the thing is stable/doesn’t tip over. Also is it just me or are reaction chambers on these cone skimmers getting smaller? Isn’t it better for the bubbles to have more time mixing with water?

You’re right, my bad. I was totally thinking of the rating for a dual pump model when I recalled that number. I took it out since no airdraw specification has been provided for this model from the mfg.

That’s how the base of their other internal space-saver cone skimmers (it appears to be the same thing, but uses a Sicce pump instead of the Bubble-Blaster), at least it is on my 2000 model, and yes it’s stable.

really??? the psk 2500??? come on octopus…
why is this even news when the diablo isnt as good as the existing octopus cone skimmers that come with bb pumps, or the extreme series with the new sicce 600 and 1000 pumps.
slap a damn sicce 1000 in there octo!!!! or stick with your original AB knock-off pump.
from the looks of it, they didnt mod the volute on the 2500, and im guessing that it comes with a pinwheel impeller, so enjoi your start up issues…
