Jake’s heading to Oregon to chat LEDs with PNWMAS

By on Aug 19, 2011

Our roaming editor Jake Adams is off to Oregon this weekend to chat about LED lights with the Pacific Northwest Marine Aquarium Society. If you happen to be in the area tomorrow (Saturday, August 20), go check out his informative presentation with all the latest details on what’s hot in LED aquarium lighting. PNWMAS is holding the meeting from 12:30 p.m. with the presentation set to begin at 1 p.m. and wrap up around 4 p.m. For more details visit the PNWMAS website.

Im sort of interested… what does he have to talk about as far as LED’s?  I work with LED’s.  Im an electrical engineer with a focus on power electronics (among other things).  I have an ocean optics spectral radiometer and an apogee meter that I use to do grid testing and spectral graphs.  Im not giving any presentations though.  What could you possibly give presentations about?

“Uh, its a light… there you go!  And to conclude, here are a bunch of pictures…”  I dont know, but other than doing some lab testing or metering…  most of what is hot in LED lighting has little to do with what might interest “reefers at large”, and more that interests us semiconductor geeks.

Were you talking about the theorhetical maximum efficiency of a 555nm monochromatic source (100% efficient conversion of electricity to light for 683 lumens per watt)?  Microcontroller topologies and architectures?  What is to talk about with regards to this hobby other than what is on this site?  You aren’t holding back on us now, are you Jake?  Lol.

    Jake,
Thanks so much for taking the time to come out and tell us about LEDs. Your talk was very informative and eye opening. (Kinda funny running into you before the meeting)
    Thanks Again
PS If you ever get the chance to go to one of Jake Adams talks I would recommend it!
