Dr G’s Marine Aquaculture is a new aquarium company offering up some liquid foods for reef tanks made from phytoplankton, oyster and copepods. In addition to the Oyster Magnifique and Live Tiger Copepods, Dr. G’s first product to be spotted in the wild is the live phytoplankton feed which is refrigerated a-la DT’s phytoplankton and Reef Nutrition products before it. What made us do a double take is seeing the familiar green bottles of Dr G’s Phytoplankton with the same shape and color as DT’s phytoplankton sitting underneath Reef Nutrition’s Phyto Feast and Oyster Feast products – it gave us a momentary case of deja-vu.
Although it isn’t surprising to see another live phytoplankton additive on the reef market, it is quite odd that nowhere on the bottle or the website could we find any mention of what kind of phytoplankton is being offered in the live veggie soup product. We’re also told that visual inspection of the phytoplankton appears to be noticeably less concentrated than the dense phyto syrup we’ve come to expect from Phyto Feast and Phyto Feast Live. Dr. G’s Phytoplankton and other products are just beginning to trickle out to reef stores but in the meantime they are also available directly on their website.
