Big surprise ;) … I don’t see how the Radion don’t win this. It’s the first ramp to replicate the MH spectrum to the eye and the design is awesome. If I was in the LED ramp business, I would just copy it.

I don’t see why Radion shouldn’t win this. Radion is Mazarra superior in just about everything.

    :)
    Maxpect – dont give up!
I saw that Ecotech started mass mailing all their customers with vote request for their product.. It’s a cheating the system or not? Its a RB readers contest – or click/vote only place? :)
The same should be done by Maxspect :) – it would be interesting – because there are much more Chineese people’s on the earth - three time more…! :)
    Ha!
This contest is rather like for fun – it not even popularity contest :)

Mazzarra per me è molto piu’ funzionale e si adatta meglio anche ad acquari piu’ piccoli e la sua versatilita’ è impareggiabile !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • antonino perria

Mazzarra for me is much more ‘functional and fits well in most aquariums’ small and its versatility’ is unparalleled !!!!!!!!!!!!!

got these lights and must say there great

The Radion was bound to win from the beginning, its a great unit as is the Mazarra. I actually prefer the functional mounting design of Mazarra, truly a unique solution. The Vertex Illumina (not illuminux) should have been included in the grid as I really see it as a final four fixture.

A couple years ago, no one would trust a reef led lighting product made in China would be any good. Now it is head-to-head against the US best. May the best win!

Nothing like a good fanboi contest to prove absolutely jack squat.

Ironically though, the Radion is also made in China.

I have four radion units and they are growing SPS with great colours and the blues, what can I say but they are truly stunning each evening when the tank looks like another world :)

All EcoTech Marine products, including the Radion, are made in the USA (Bethlehem, PA).

I got the email as well from EcoTech asking to vote in the poll.. well.. I guess we have the answer on who has the best marketing team. ;)

EcoTech does have a leg up on that so to speak since they got my email address from buying an MP40 so they have a nice customer list built up to mass email already, something most new LED Mfgs won’t have.

    bang on.

This is simply a popularity contest it doesn’t mean anything but its all in fun I guess……..I just hope people who are researching this don’t think that these two are the best of the best and don’t buy anything else.  I think the Radions are the best out but the AI’s IMO are the 2nd to them!

It seems to prove who has more fanboys or fangirls as the case may be.

So you are going to declare a winner based on a poll of people who may or may not have even seen the equipment in question? That’s pretty damned stupid if you ask me.

As is any poll done on the Internet! Take it for what it’s worth…

I own the Radion but don’t see how I can vote since I’ve still never seen the Mazarra in person (although I researched it a lot before buying the Radion.)  The Radion is an excellent light, BUT the software is incredibly awful.  It’s the most un-intuitive piece of software I’ve encountered in ages, and I’ve wasted many hours with trial-and-error to figure it out (and then forget what worked after having been through so many different attempts to program it.)  It’s also buggy.  To top it off, as I’m a Mac user, I had to shell out an additional $90 to purchase Parallels to run Windows in order to even use the light.  Thankfully, software is fixable, and I am holding out hope that EcoTech will both come out with a Mac version and improve the usability of the software.

    #define ‘popularity contest’:
    1. n., Any polling to find the best of something where actual meaningful information is waysided by those voting for the sake of being allied to something with a superior product name and/or marketing.

    See also: this entire series.

The very nature of this is, a good portion of the people who have voted in this will actually own what they voted for. But, in having spent nearly a grand per unit, they’re going to do anything they possibly can to validate their purchase to themselves/their reefkeeping cohort/the internet even if it means that they’re voting against other worthy product to do it.

So, congratulations. You’ve really just found out that Radion fanboys are more prevalent than Maxspect ones in your blog’s readership. Not that we didn’t already know that before now…

You had to shell out $90 for Parallels? You couldn’t have used a free VM software like Sun’s Virtual Box or dual booted with free Bootcamp that comes with OSX? Worst case it cost $50 for VM Fusion (the original VM Mfg). I see no reason anyone should spend $90 on Parallels when pretty much any alternative out there is cheaper and better.

See how popularity (marketing) wins here. This has nothing to do with performance, value for money or any other rational point on which – I think – you should evaluate these lights.
I’m starting to doubt the quality of this blog. That could never have been the goal of this poll… Luckely there are other more ‘advanced’ rescources on this topic ;-)

Radium, sin duda la mejor pantalla

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XMBVIE5PJXMAMZJSENESFNWBKA Joe

So who do you think should have won? While I don’t think the Radion is by any means the “perfect” LED light, it is a very well built light at a good price point and I can see it deserving of a win. Personally though I would pick the Maxspect if I were in the market to buy a LED fixture. I like the ability to swap LEDs easily as well as be able to turn the light away from my eyes if I was working on the tank.
