C.A.S.T. is a new and truly innovative way to filter out fine particulate matter from your reef aquarium with something other than a filter sock. The Coral-Shop C.A.S.T. is an add-on box that can be daisy chained, added onto existing setups and is clear so you can easily see what the status is of the user replaceable filter pads. With Coral-Shop’s innovations in the high performance ProfiTower and the DeniStar denitrification kriesel, we are more thrilled than surprised to see their novel take on mechanical prefilters with the C.A.S.T. aquarium prefilter.
The C.A.S.T. Prefilter consists of a primary filter box with an inlet for your aquarium drain, an outlet for water to flow into your sump, and side outlets for water to overflow into the sump or into more C.A.S.T. prefilter boxes so you can use more than one prefilter at the same time. A lid on the prefilter box of the Coral Shop C.A.S.T. prevents splashing and a simple A-frame of plastic supports a range of coarse and fine filter pads that can be easily cleaned or replaced by the user.
Coral Shop states that 2000 lph (528gph) of water can be passed through a single C.A.S.T. prefilter box when one filter pad is used, or half that if you opt to use both coarse and fine filter pads. For higher flow needs you can simply add on more C.A.S.T. Prefilter boxes. For those of us who like to make our own sumps from basic aquariums and like to use mechanical filtration as a means of nutrient export, the Coral-Shop C.A.S.T. is an easy to use and scalable solution for that purpose. Price and availability of the Coral Shop C.A.S.T. has not yet been set but as usual we’ll be sure to keep a watch on this unusually useful reef aquarium product. [Coral-Shop]
