The Coral Bin adds new twist to WYSIWYG Coral retailing

By on Apr 11, 2012

The Coral Bin, a new upstart WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) coral livestock company has recently launched. With traditional WYSIWYG outlets, you go through rows and rows of thumbnails looking for a particular species or animal that catches your eye. With Coral Bin, the prices are arranged by “bins” or buckets of prices, starting at $10. This feature is already available as a sort option on most large ecommerce sites; however the different niche here is marketing this “sort” function as the site itself. Whether or not you use the company, it certainly is an interesting twist in the world of coral retailing in the WYSIWYG category that is dominated by large players such as Live Aquaria.

Neat idea, but you’d think sorting by price should be something that you should be able to do on a website.   Prices are a bit out there, but I do realize certain parts of the country can be coral deprived, if I could sell my “grows like invasive weeds” blue mushrooms at 60 bucks a pop I’d retire in a year!

Interesting concept and one employed by one of my favorite LFS in the Bay Area, Neptune Aquatics in Milpitas, CA. Nice to be able to look into a tank and search for that choice $20 frag when you have the itch and a tight budget.
