Vintage Aquarium products from All Oddball Aquatics offer nostalgic thoughts of how far we’ve come

By on Apr 11, 2012

At Reef Builders we obsessively cover every aspect of the marine aquarium world; the fish, the corals, the great displays, and especially the new products. Since we spend so much time thinking about new products, sometimes its nice to see what aquarium hobbyists of old used to keep their tanks in good shape, and the weird marketing that manufacturers used to hawk their wares.

It’s one thing to look at the products advertised in old magazines but if you want a piece of aquarium history, freshwater aquarium fish specialist All Oddball Aquatics has two pages of vintage aquarium products for sale. The antique aquarium goods range from foods, to heaters, backgrounds, and a whole lot more. Follow the break to see our favorites of the vintage aquarium products we spotted while browsing these blasts from the aquarium past.

Mmmmm, Ant Eggs! The old-school labels with all hand-drawn art work is notably absent these days.

This antique Rena C20 'Kreiselpump' looks remarkably similar to today's basic powerhead design

OMG, gotta get some of that Ionetic Bio-Filtration System for the nano reef!

We can't figure out why metallic art-deco aquarium backgrounds fell out of favor

very cool.  those old food container labels are great and those “window nets” shown on the site need to be made again. would be perfect for “netting” fry and spiny fish.

They used glass wool back in the day?

I used to have one of those old heaters (like on the site). Unfortunately I threw it out a few years ago when I set up the new tank. :P

I think the “metallic art-deco aquarium background” is actually a stainless steel hood. You can see the etched pop-outs for a heater and filter.

Our definition of “antique” has changed much in the same way as them term “oldies” when applied to music. I recall owning and using many of the items shown in my younger FW days. I guess that makes me an antique as well. :)

the eco-aqualizer was a recent Bob Geomans classic too.

Now, another monumental ‘first’ has occurred with the coming of ‘ECO-Aqualizer.’ ”http://www.saltcorner.com/Reviews/showreview.php?reviewID=19
