Aquarium Systems NeWave pump gets a second generation tune up

By on Apr 12, 2012

The NeWave propeller water pump from Aquarium Systems has been available for just over two years yet it is already getting a refresh. The (new) NeWave seems to bring with it primarily two big changes, in the design of the propeller and of the magnet suction cup mount. First of all  instead of the straight blades of the previous model the impeller now has a curved blades which help increase efficiency by pushing 20% more water. The other major change is in the addition of a layer of silicone in the magnet suction cup mount to decrease any noise coming from the NeWave. The NeWave is primarily distributed in Europe but American reefers should pay attention since the first NeWave’s design seemed to have been the foundation for Coralife’s circulation pumps, especially the propeller and the mounting. Nothing beats the classic Koralias, then a bit more money, Sicce, and then Tunze and EcoTech Marine.

I agree. All the other brands of power heads all have the same ugly old fashioned look to them IMO.

Well, at least it has a magnet mount; the coralife flow pumps are useless.  The suction cup only works for about 6 weeks.
