New AquaticLife 3W Expert Series LED light coming in September

By on Aug 30, 2012

AquaticLife is launching a new 3W Expert Series LED light fixture on September 10 that features four channels of color control, remote control and ability to customize your own unique lighting cycle. The light is the most advanced LED fixture in the company’s catalog and is built featuring all Cree LEDs in the fixture.

The first version of the AquaticLife Expert Series LED will be a 14 in. fixture with 78W of output featuring a blend of white, blue, royal blue and red CREE diodes. As far as optics, the fixture comes with interchangeable 80 and 100 degree optics that can be easily swapped to fit your desired light spread. The company plans on adding a 34 and 46 in. version in the future.

Each Expert Series LED fixture comes with a remote control to allow you to take advantage of three different 24-hour light programs that can be customized, along with selecting up to 18 different preset color combinations. Getting bored just looking at the tank, want to impress friends or just do something different? The remote also allows you to activate cloud cover and thunderstorm modes.

For those of you who want more from your light cycle, with the AquaticLife software you can create custom “traces” or lighting cycles, modify the lunar cycle or even the intensity or duration of the thunderstorm. To upload the custom program from your computer, you just need to connect your fixture via a USB cable or take advantage of a AquaticLife Wireless USB Adapter Set.

The fixture takes advantage of passive cooling with a good heatsink to dissipate heat, and cut down on extra noise and issues with a fan.  The 14 inch Expert Series LED will have a MAP of $729.99 that includes the remote, suspension hardware and software.

No spectrum under 453nm and they call it an ‘expert’ light? After having a few years of experience with growing corals under LEDs I have come to the conclusion that actinic light is an extremely important part of the spectrum that MH and T5 users have enjoyed for years, but has been lacking in LEDs. Today, we have the capability with LEDs finally.. so I can’t imagine why any Mfg would make a new LED light today and not include the lower spectrum.

becasue cree doesnt make them yet and they dont want to use a brand that people do not recognize.
I agree 100% as I have been using 420ish leds for almost 2 years now.

If people are buying a fixture which comes with a warranty what does it really matter if they use Cree, Luxeon, or any other mfg as long as it is a quality LED? Sure, Cree’s are great, they are the majority of my LEDs as well, but when I get into spectrums that I want and Cree doesn’t make (660nm and anything below 453nm) I pick another brand.

Not disagreeing with anything you posted, my rant is towards the Mfg. I would rather have a different brand and have the spectrum I want than just say “oh well, Cree doesn’t make them so we won’t add them” mentality that I see with this Mfg.

78 Watts? The Radion is 118 Watts and a much better Fixture for the same price. Plus what if the Radion gets upgraded like the AI SOl did. It will be even better. Nobody is going to buy this. It reminds me of the Coralife $2,500 LED. Did anybody buy that? You would think a Big Name like Aquaticlife would be able to put out more affordable LED’s, especially since they are inferior. Small start up companies are doing a much better job than the big ones (i.e. Marineland – What a joke).

It is lacking a bit of power for a price that competes with the Ecotech Radion. The new AI Vega is cheaper and has similar power I think.

So here is a Comparison of the AquaticLife 3W and the other more popular and cheaper LED Lights on the Market.

    AquaticLife 3W 78 Watts $730

    Radion 118 Watts (Same Price)
    Marxspect Razor 150 Watts $495
    AI Vega 95 Watts $500
    AI Sol 75 Watts $400
    Kessil A350 96 Watts $400

    What do you guys think?

  • XD_1

Wow. I go away for one day and everyone else makes sarcastic comments about lousy new products! What am I supposed to do now?

You guys are praising these high end fixtures like if they are the best thing on the market… Storm mode is horrible and I can care less about the integration of wireless with my Ecotech pumps in Night mode. Your paying for these extra features. Aqua life is charge extra for the USB and wireless remote feature… All the Cree 3w led are the same Nothing new with LED diodes that are making the fixture better…. You guys have way to much time on your hands

You might want to through in Apollo Reef LED

In Marinelands defense; joke or not, there are more Reef Capable sold than any other LED fixture. So they must have done something right.

  • thatfoilguy

Yeah they put them in Pet Stores and the idiots that do not know any better buy them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jason-Frick/100001223981671 Jason Frick

By idiots do you mean newer aquarist that can not afford a $700 fixture yet? The reef capable is a introductory LED fixture. They are marketed toward new hobbyist. Not reef LED snobs.

  • thatfoilguy

If you can afford 300 for a Crappy Marineland, then you can afford an extra 100 for say a Kessil A350. Actually, their A150 is 265 making it less than the Marineland but a Million Times Better.

It looks as if they dumped a lot into the computer on this thing and all the settings rather than the light itself. When I use lights, I hardly ever use a dimmer let a lone anything else fancy, just a simple on off will do, with a timer on the outlet. I do however like to see good quality lights with enough watts, color, quality build.

In Aquaticlife’s defense, they make solid products for not so much money (with the exception of this new light coming.) I like them, they are a good company. But this light is a bit much $, hopefully they figure out a way to reduce the price on it. Kessil is good, I tried their Amazon over my tank, a bit dim, but still happy. I have yet to try a 350 for reef tank.

AI Sol seems like it would be my choice over this new Aquaticlife. Better $ and comparable wattage and looks like comparable quality. The AI Sol has been a good light.

Marineland: The reef capable are dope lights for fish only, a bit expensive, but worth it because of the color and brightness. For coral, not so much. A bit dim and doesn’t penetrate deep enough for coral.
