AI Director is AquaIllumination’s solution for simplified wireless control

By on Mar 02, 2013

Reefstock is well on the way,  and the AI Director is the perhaps one of the hottest products on the floor of reefstock.  Setting out to connect your AI fixtures to the internet easily, the AI director serves as a dedicated dongle for your LEDs. Simply  connect your fixture to the AI director wirelessly, make sure it is connected to the internet and the AI director will take care of the rest. The AI director will have dedicated android and iOS apps along with a web portal so the lights can be controlled from anywhere in the world.

Each AI Director features a ethernet port and a USB port, so it can be connected to the internet either with a cord or wirelessly (dongle sold separately). The apps and web portal are currently still in development, but they will allow full manipulation of the color spectrum, timer setup and all the other features we’ve come to expect. The app furthermore allows easy managing of the different lights, with no real limit on the actual number of fixtures, which should make maintenance companies happy. The AI Director will be sold at an introductory price of $99 and should release towards the end of this summer.

I would happily pay $99 right now for an EcoTech equivalent of this. Right now.

Allow me to respond on Ecotechs behalf:

Ecotech has a policy of not discussing products that may or may not be in development. However if such device should become available for your fully upgradable fixture, we will sell a newer version fixture first, and many months later cryptically offer an upgrade path.

AI has been claiming the Director was coming soon since mid 2012. I’ll believe it when i see it…

Ha! Although I’ll cut EcoTech some slack for at least committing to an upgrade path for the Radions even if they’re dragging their feet. We can replace pucks on a Sol Blue, but we can’t turn it into a Vega, as far as I’m aware?

If you like I can email you a photo of the sol to vega upgrade kit which will ship by the end of the month. It’s a Vega, with a Sol heat sink. They have it at the show.

  • XD_1

I didn’t know they were doing that! Competition between EcoTech and AI is proving very good for the consumer.

I did see it, at the show :)

How much is the upgrade kit?

it looks like a Apple TV with a steel trim for aquariums .
