Giesemann has launched their IQ Nano aquarium to the masses over in Europe. The Giesemann IQ Nano Aquarium is your typical aquarium size coming in at 400 x 400 x 400mm (15.74″ x 15.74″ x 15.74″) and holding roughly about 17 gallons of salt or fresh water. The base price is €999 ($1401) and will get you the aquarium, a stand available in 3 different color schemes, connections for a sump system (but let’s remember you don’t get the sump with the base package) and a 4 x 8 watt T5 light. You could of course upgrade to a marine package that includes a Deltec MCE300 for the included sump, a feed pump and sump connectors. That marine package will run an extra €369 ($517). Ouch. That’s not all. You can upgrade the lighting system with their “Light Package”. The lighting package upgrades the included 4×8 watt T5 up to a 70 watt metal halide with 2 x8 watt T5s. We aren’t sure why Giesemann decided to put a Metal Halide over only 17 gallons of water, that is just asking for the water to boil. That’s way to much heat and in our opinion they should have stuck with LEDs.

Giesemann has jumped into the nano aquarium game with the release of their new Reflexx nano pendants. If you are a Giesemann fan then you’ll already know there are full size T5 hoods already in the Reflexx line. These new reflexx nano pendants come in either 70watt or 150 watt double ended varieties. There is also an Nano plus version which includes the additional option of T5s included in the fixture with both of the Reflexx lighting fixtures less than 12″ in length and great for nano aquariums up to 24″ inches wide. The 70 watt version retails for 259 euros which equates to about $372 in American currency. As these lights are not officially out yet, ask your Giesemann retailer about availability.

We started counting our pennies even before reading the spec sheet for Giesemann’s new G-tron aquarium controller. The premium electronic device will be available in two flavors with a basic model monitoring and controlling pH, temperature and general parameters and the premium model will also include redox and increased expandibility options. One of the unique features of this aqua computer is that the general settings are pre-set at the factory for out-of-the-box operation although those settings can be modified, saved and backed-up in case of power interruption. What is noticeably absent in the details is whether the G-tron will have any special dominion over Giesemann’s extensive catalog of top-shelf light fixtures. No word on price or release date but given the cost of G-lights, we can assume that the G-tron will not be an entry-level purchase.
