Probobly a stupid question to some. I was just wondering how to get rid of green hair algae in my tank. It is starting to grow on more and more rocks, and i want to get rid of it before it gets out of hand. thanks .

Hi zilla, how about some info. How long has the tank been up? Did you use substrate and rock from another tank to establish this one? What are your nitrate and phosphate levels? The answer to these will help to determine possible causes/reasons for an outbreak. Let me know.

Like what Leon said we would like some test level, although not all algae comes from phosphates and nitrates. How old your lighting? Are you using RO water? What are your Magnesium levels at?

Fill me in on the lighting guys. Perhaps I am misinterpreting your post but how could "older" lighting be related to algae growth. I thought stronger lighting usually causes algae growth.

Godzilla is the tank exposed to a lot of natural sunlight?

Old bulbs shift their spectrum some that can trigger an algae outbreak.

Yes, as jay states, it is the spectrum of the light. zilla, the word "stronger" is misleading to most. For example, My power compaq "looks" brighter than my T-5, however my T-5 has a "stronger" or more "intense" spectrum of penetrating light. That is why T-5s are growing in popularity.
