The biggest annoying trait with sumps that you buy either online or through your LFS is that they come with bio balls. Now, 10 years ago I don’t think I would have made such a stink about having bio-balls included in my sump, I mean after all that is what you were supposed to have if you didn’t use a plenum system. Eshopps has taken this into consideration when launching their “reef” line of sumps. Which basically include a filter sock and acrylic sump. Simple enough. All sumps come with 3 ft 1 1/4 drain hose, 1 1/4 bulkhead, 200 micron filter sock or bag, tray, cover, and sponge. Pricing starts at $120 for an area 18″ x 10″ x 16″ H. Not bad.
