We first reported about the Fauna Marin Star Fire T5 lighting unit some time back. Then, we only had CAD drawings to show you and finally Fauna Marin has ousted a prototype model for us to gaze our eyes upon. As they say, the model gives a great indication of what to expect. We do notice the careful attention to the reflectors seem large and true, although we would like to get some careful PAR analysis of them. Fauna Marin has taken great strides to try to eliminate any side loss that is customary in T5 and other lighting systems and the reflectors reflect speak that. There will be LED lights included in the Star Fire to replicate metal halide shimmer that some of you most have, with each LED getting its own dedicated iris for spreading the refraction of the LED. Not to worry, moonlights have also been included to keep your fish in the mood at night. Expect to see OSRAM/Sylvania ballasts installed powering your T5 lamps and although this lamp won’t fit everyone’s budget (39w 8 tube unit starts at $1,499) it does give us all something to lust after.
