If you haven’t been reading the news lately then you might not have heard that the Federal Trade Commission recently changed their rules regarding “Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising” (PDF link to the FTC). This covers a broad spectrum of changes in advertising, but especially affects us here at Reef Builders. Why? Basically the FTC changed the way that we have to report if we are getting paid, or receiving a product in exchange for a review. We usually state whether the product/company is an advertiser of us, but sometimes we neglect forget to let our readers know. However, as of tomorrow we will be doing this. The FTC stated that these new rules be in effect on December 1, 2009 but we thought it would be a good idea if we started to do it ahead of time on a constant basis. Here at Reef Builders we try to be unbiased as possible, but to be completely honest each of our writers have different opinions and viewpoints and collectively there is a nice mix of both sides. Hopefully, with your help we can become your favorite saltwater aquarium blog for years to come.
