This reef tank which is housed in Beijing looks impressive as it doesn’t use a traditional “rock wall“. The tank is a 210 gallon setup with a 40 gallon sump, but that’s not the impressive part. This tank does use traditional metal halide for its main lighting but upon closer inspection and little digging around shows that the tank is lit by a DIY LED fixture. The DIY body is from aluminum with three mounted aluminum heat sinks positioned between the Lumenarc reflectors. On each heat sink is a 16 CREE 3-watt LED bulbs (70% blue and 30% white) to help with VHO actnic support. In fact you can get a picture of the LED unit below the break. Hats off to Welles for his DIY skills with CREE LEDs.
