You might remember that a tanker has run aground on clipperton Island, home of some truely beautiful fish. The tanker was carrying over 10,000 tons of Xylene in its cargo holds. There has been no pollution or damage other than that to the hull of the vessel, which, according to French reports, appeared to have been moving at high speed, given that it had grounded along a 60m length of its hull. Attempts to move the vessel have proved unsuccessful as several tugs have been in the area since February 13 but have only been able to move the ship 15m which is far to little to set the vessel free. The French Polynesian authorities have ordered Eitzen (the shipping company) to put an end to the risk posed by the vessel and its cargo by March 15. Or else.
