In a follow-up to a previous post, the Cancun and Isla Mujeres Underwater Art Museum has added three new sculptures to their enormous collection of underwater art. The three new additions are entitled Dream Collector, Man on Fire, and The Gardener of Hope. Dream Collector features a man standing next to a desk containing shelves lined with bottles with message of support in each. Man on Fire is unique in that the sculpture has 75 holes drilled throughout the structure and tiny frags of fire coral (Millepora sp.) embedded in each one. The Gardener of Hope presents a young girl relaxing on a veranda surrounded by seagrass. In all, the museum will have nearly 250 statues by April 2010 and was created with the hopes of luring tourists away from the local reefs that have been damaged in recent years due to their popularity as diving spots. In addition to the photos below, there is an additional gallery and a YouTube video showcasing other sculptures in this watery art gallery.
