Reef Set is set (no pun intended) to make a big scene in the saltwater and freshwater aquarium markets by pushing out a slew of new products. One of their first new products in the Reef Set overflow. It does what you might expect, plus it has a nifty silencer that should eliminate all that burbling noise that is a naturally recurring theme with overflows. This particular model is able to turn through 2000, 2500 lph or roughly 528 to 660 gph.

Connection between the tank and sump regardless if the tank is freshwater or saltwater.
Connecting two tanks, for example, to isolate the animals without reducing water quality, especially important in saltwater systems.
In both cases, with a spare pump water back into the tank higher.
