The BiOrb 105 is a new all-in-one spherical aquarium from Reef One. Although bowl shaped aquaria are hardly ever considered for reef tanks, the inspirational work of Dave Lackland and his 115 gallon reef bowl demonstrates the enormous creative potential of this classical shape. The BiOrbs have been around for several years, although not popular with the reef keeping hobby. This much larger size makes this aquarium far more appealing to the reef keeping world than their marine kit. The ability to fit in larger pieces of rock, and a bigger opening for a pendant light show much potential. We’ve shown you some examples of what can be done with a smaller BiOrb but this larger size opens up a world of other opportunities. Species specific tanks, walk around vieweing, and unique challenges to aquascaping quickly come to mind. These BiOrb 105 aquariums are almost double the size of the previous large 16 gallon aquariums and come in the standard silver or black colors. Set to release next month (most likely at InterZoo) in the European market. Reef One separated from the Casco Group about four months ago, so distribution in the U.S. will take a different route than previous BiOrb products, and US pricing isn’t available at this time. Props to Reef One for coming up with another great idea, following their Autism Speaks campaign. Keep an eye on the BiOrb 105 webpage which is currently under development.
