Eric Cheng is an underwater photographer the likes of Tony Wu who basically just travels the world in search of cool things to see, photograph and film. Mr. Cheng was recently invited to speak at TEDxBerkeley, an independently organized TED event (Technology, Education, Design) which tastes like berkeley. In his presentation Eric speaks about some of his travels with a focus on filming flashlight fish and the connection between sperm whales and giant squid. If watch no other videos today, you have to see Eric’s video of hundreds of flashlight fish as they stream out of the porthole of this shipwreck like a cloud of bats exiting a cave, except that they glow. The sperm whales are neat too but the flashlight fish can at least theoretically be kept in home tanks.

Jake Adams has been an avid marine aquarist since the mid 90s and has worked in the retail side of the marine aquarium trade for more than ten years. He has a bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and has been the managing editor of ReefBuilders.com since 2008.
