The Blue Dragon sea slug is one of the reasons we love the underrated nudibranch so much. With bright and vivid colors, a surreal shape and deadly behavior, the Blue Dragon is certainly a sight to see. You might see it trending on your social feeds lately because one of these specimens recently washed ashore on a Queensland beach.
Blue dragons (Glaucus atlanticus) are typically found floating upside down in warm ocean currents. They have powerful venom they release through stings from their wing-like appendages. Don’t feel to cutesy-cutesy about this create quite yet. Their venom is so toxic they have been know to wins the stinging battle with other venomous ocean predators like the Portuguese man-o-war.
