The Smarter Reefs frozen fish food system is like a huge popsicle stick for your reef tank livestock – the apparatus and design allows you to feed your fish for as long as the frozen mixture thaws from normal environmental factors, like your reef tank.
The “Frozen Fish food Feeder” from a new company called Smarter Reefs stopped by Reef Builders to give a hands-on look. The process is pretty simple you use the silicone tray and put your favorite fish food in the tray and use RODI water to freeze these soon to be “popsicle sticks”.
Next, you fill another mold with RODI water and freeze. That mold is the base for the frozen “popsicle” stick to keep cold while it slowly thaws. The included mount attaches easily to your aquarium where you put the frozen tube and it will slowly drip into your tank. This concept is incredibly neat and we give a shout out to founder James Foster for coming up with this novel device at an attractive price point. He says the device has been tested on aquariums of ten gallons or larger giving even nano tanks a chance to get on the frozen fish tube goodness.
The reef popsicle system is available for around $125US and can be purchased online.
