The MiniMax SUMP is a new media reactor in Innovative Marine’s growing catalog of AQUA Gadgets for the home aquarium. Their simple and easy to service reactors have been a favorite of users in hang-on applications, especially for all in one tanks, and now the MiniMax SUMP brings the same experience underneath the aquarium.
Like their hang-on reactors, the MiniMax Sump features an included bottom-mounted pump for efficient upflow water movement through the media. This orientation ensures full water flow through the media, and enables fluidizing of biopellets as well.
But most importantly, having the pump out of the way allows the same quick-access to the removable media chamber for fast and easy servicing or replacement of the media. Like their hang-on reactors, the MiniMax Sump reactor also has a twist-to-adjust feature to dial in the desired flowrate, but the concept is further refined with different sized outlet holes so you can more precisely adjust the water turnover.
Despite being designed for use in-sump, the MiniMax Sump reactor is still a fairly small device, with a height of just under ten inches, and a diameter just a little bit over 4 inches for the entire footprint. The MiniMax Sump’s included pump pushes 92 gallons per hour while drawing only 8 watts, more than enough to get good water turnover in the 380ml media volume of the MiniMax Sump reactor.
