The Buddy Watcher is an innovative new way to keep track of your buddy, or a large group of divers. This new underwater paging system from Dive Alert uses ultrasonic communication to pair up two Buddy Watchers so that you can get the attention of your dive buddy when visuals or sound may not be enough.
There are two buttons on the Buddy Watcher, one to page your dive buddy, and another to page the dive leader, if one is designated. The wearer of the Dive Buddy is alerted through built-in vibration which should be unmistakeable compared to vague audio or visual cues.
You can also set up a master-slave network of Buddy Watchers wherein up to 16 of the SCUBA wearables are connected. In theory the dive leader can press one button and immediately get the attention of the entire dive group.
We don’t have to tell you how important underwater communication can be, under any circumstances. It could be used to alert fellow divers to an incredible sighting, it can function as a safety aid, and it is especially useful to notify any straggling divers that it’s time to return to the boat.
The Buddy Watcher is sold in pairs for $299 and we imagine it will quickly become a favorite of dive shops and tour operators who are committed to ensuring the safety of their divers. [Dive Alert]
