If there’s one thing that Reef Builders has become known for during our career of writing about aquarium topics, is having the pulse on all the rarest, and most expensive, fish in the aquarium hobby. These range from the tiniest deepwater Bladefin basslet, to the revered Peppermint Angelfish.
We’ve documented many of these fish in individual videos over the last ten years, but thought it would be fun to put together a video of the Top 10 Most Expensive aquarium fish. Who doesn’t love a good Top 10 list, especially when it’s a blast of exotic fish eye candy?
It’s important to note that due to their inaccessibility and living in hard to reach places, these fish are not ‘Rare’ per se, but are simply rare in the hobby. Not only are the total collections of these fish measured in the dozens of specimens per year, but the four most expensive aquarium fish are available predominantly from captive breeders.
Excluding pond fish like Koi, food fish like Tuna, and some super rare fish fossils, these are the Top 10 most expensive aquarium fish in the world.
