The Glamorca Pump is the newest aquarium company to license MaxSpect’s very popular Gyre pump technology. In size and shape the Glamorca Pump is virtually identical to the real mccoy, but in some ways it doesn’t directly compete with the MaxSpect.
The smallest MaxSpect Gyre is the XF230 which has a maximum flowrate of 2,300 gallons per hour, and a price of around $289 with a power supply and the new Advanced Controller. The Glamorca comes in at a similar price point and feature set as the IceCap 3K Gyre pump – it has a max flowrate of 3,000 gallons per hour, a US$150 price point and a stripped down controller with basic but very useful features.
The Glamorca Pump will be distributed primarily in Canada and Asia while American reefers can get essentially the same pump from the IceCap3K. It’s very interesting to see MaxSpect licensing out their gyre flow technology pumps, and offering them in a range of feature levels to reach every corner of the aquarium market.
