The Airmeter from Aqua Medic is an aquarium accessory so simple yet desirable it’s a wonder how we’ve never seen one before. As obsessed as we reefers get about our protein skimmers, and especially critical specs like airdraw, we’re surprised that this awesome device is not simply incorporated into basically all protein skimmers.
Many years ago protein skimmers started using air silencers and today a skimmer isn’t complete without one. We feel the same way about the Airmeter and we’ve long sought out a straightforward version for aquarium use.
Priced at right around $20, the Aqua Medic airmeter is a must have accessory for knowing how well your protein skimmer is working. The most crucial part of using an air flow meter like the Airmeter is alerting protein skimmer owners when their device needs servicing due to clogging anywhere along the path of air intake, especially the aspirator or venturi valve.
The Airmeter has a maximum measurement of up to 1000 liters per hour, plenty for most medium sized protein skimmers, but you might need more, or something different for the big boy skimmers.
