The Macro Aqua NP200 Biopellet Reactor is a very interesting new form factor for hang-on use. Unlike virtually all other cylindrical media reactors, the Macro Aqua NP200 explores the usefulness of a very different shape.
The hang-on U-shape reactor is proof positive that if there’s a shape that could possibly present some advantage in reef aquarium filtration, aquarium manufacturers will find it! We’ve seen cone shapes, circular, diamond and seemingly every kind of geometry before, so naturally it was only a matter of time until the U made an appearance.
It’s easy to see how incoming water will follow the curvature of the U-shaped bottom of the Macro Aqua NP200, bringing the biopellets with it. The void left behind is a perfect place for more biopellets to fall in and get their turn at being aggressively stirred.
The sizing of Macro Aqua’s NP200 will be highly dependent on how much bio-export you want to get from your tank but it should be useful for tanks between 50 and 200 gallons (again, this is very dependent on bioload). Price should be less than $100, and it’s actually a better looking aquarium accessory than we’re used to, especially in the usually thrifty hang-on device department.
