Austrian hardware manufacturer Scitronix is a new company that has ambitious goals in the aquarium hobby. In addition to developing a sophisticated LED striplight and modular fixture, Scitronix is getting closer to releasing their fully fledged aquarium controller called LittleBlue.
The touchscreen interface is the same we’ve seen in a teaser video released in German earlier this year. However a just released english version of the same video is easier to follow, and gives some tantalizing clues at the potential this new kit of electronics might have for aquarium use.
First off the intuitive graphical interface is light years beyond the machine language that is used on contemporary devices. This is great for the central hub of an aquarium controller but as we’ve seen with smartphones, it’s all about the ecosystem of devices and apps they support.
Also, we’ve seen more aquarium controller projects than we have actual controllers, so getting to market and staying relevant is still a very hard thing for companies to achieve. The interface of the LittleBlue controller from Scitronix looks promising, but until these are out in the wild and transforming the way people control their tanks, we’ll remain respectfully neutral and just hope that these aspirations come to fruition.
