I remember a time, when LEDs were just a twinkle in our collective eyes, and dedicated moonlights were the breakthrough LED device. As our lights have become increasingly LED-powered, we’ve mostly lost that LED moonlight category, with most LED fixtures offering some kind of moonlight feature.
But not everyone is all-in with an LED light, and having very dim LEDs for night viewing is not at all the same as having a purpose built moonlight. For one, a blanket of dim light doesn’t look nearly as moonlight-y as having a really focused point source of light.
This is where the Sera LED Moonlight is bringing sexy night time aquarium viewing back. This little shortstick of LEDs includes both blue and white diodes, but it’s unclear whether you’ll be able to adjust these separately. Technically the color of moonlight is the same as the sun, so ‘natural’ moonlight should be around 6500K, or at least fairly white in color.
We presume that the Sera LED Moonlight uses the same kind of waterproof glass tube form factor as their other LED ‘striplights’. The Sera LED Moonlight comes with a programmable timer which reproduces lunar phases for this 3w, 170 lumen mini light source. Oddly though the power supply for the Sera Moonlight is sold separately so you can either get a single 1 amp PS to drive it, or supply it with power to an existing Sera 3 amp power supply. [Sera]
