Gripmore Power Scale Fins
Scales serve many functions, most notably they reduce friction or drag in the water while providing protection from the environment. The rigid blades of gripmore fins are covered in a thin sheet of artificial scales to mimic this natural design, claiming to give you a smoother fining experience.
Without trying these fins for myself, it is difficult to say if they will be any faster or more efficient. However, I can tell you the scales are very smooth, and their overlapping design gives the impression you would glide effortlessly through the water.
Customizable Designs
The gripmore fins come in an open heel design in three sizes and a variety of marine life inspired patterns. But, what’s really cool is you can upload your own design online to create a completely customizable fin. While the actual fin construction is quite basic, being able to customize a design on a single pair of fins is pretty darn cool.
The scale size is also customizable with three diameters. The smallest and medium-size scale are pictured below. I was also told they have a larger scale which can be used to make mermaid tails!
The power scale fins are available online for $160.00. This price includes free custom design options. We also saw the power scale fabric being used as knee pads for wetsuits and for bathing suits, although we didn’t find these items listed on the website. [Gripmore]
