Companies like Zappos are interested in providing unique company perks to not only recruit and retain employees, but to provide for their health and well being. Since studies have shown short naps or relaxation time can improve productivity and performance, the Las Vegas company called on their neighbors at Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM) and hosts of the TV show “Tanked” to build the ultimate nap room at their office HQ.
What they ended up with was a 25-foot aquarium that surrounds four recliner massage chairs allowing you to relax in a calming setting. The tank itself holds 3,500 gallons and has more than 200 fish. According to the Zappos website, it took eight weeks for the ATM crew to convert what was once adjoining conference rooms into the tranquility lounge.
Zappos has made cots, pods and couches available for employee naps for years and CEO Tony Hsieh has always been one to try new things.
“One of our principles is always try to do something first, unique or best,” Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh said on “Tanked.” “I think this covers all three.”
The Zappos episode aired on the season finale Dec. 15.
