The China International Pet Show towards the end of last year is a show so huge and sprawling that it literally took two videos just to bring you part of it. While the first video was mostly freshwater fish, the second part does focus in on the illustrious arowana competition as well as CIPS’s first reef aquascaping competition.
As you might imagine there are limitations to erecting a complete reef system in a matter of days but the competitors really impressed with a wide range of styles and themes for their tanks. It was really nice to see these reef tanks before the water and corals were added because there was some clear influence from the freshwater aquascaping world in the arrangement of the reef rocks.
With a brand new red BMW SUV as the grand prize for the Arowana competition, and fifteen thousand dollars for the winning reefscape, CIPS has invested significantly in motivating the entrants. No doubt that with such a substantial cash prize we’ll see even better and more intense aquascapes and layouts this year and I can’t wait to see how they turn out.
