The Curve Elite is the first real significant design change to Bubble Magus protein skimmers in a really long time. In addition to having new modern features like a pipeless outflow design and very small footprint, the real new design change is the use of Sicce PSK series needle wheel pumps.
Despite having fairly decent performance and great price point, the one specification which has held back the legacy Bubble Magus skimmers is the use of Atman pumps. While these are fine for ‘average’ performance and foam production, there’s no question that the Sicce PSK pumps will be a much more powerful and efficient way to generate foam in the new Curve Elite skimmers.
Bubble Magus will be offering the Curve Elite in three sizes, ranging from the 18 inch Curve 5 Elite, 21 inch Curve 7 Elite to the 24 inch Curve 9 Elite. The Curve 5 Elite will use a Sicce SK with an air draw of 300 liters per hour rated for up to 130 gallons, the Curve 7 Elite uses a PSK 600 suitable for up to 240 gallons with an air draw of 520 lph and the biggest Curve 9 Elite uses a PSK 1200 for 900lph of air and up to a 400 gallon aquarium.
Those aquarium size ratings are probably reliable for moderately stocked fish tanks but you’ll want to halve them if you want a low nutrient reef system. Nevertheless, the Curve Elite skimmers from Bubble Magus should be a great value proposition for reefers wanting the affordability of Bubble Magus skimmer bodies but the reliability of Sicce needle wheel pumps.
