Reefapalooza New York has wrapped up another great show for the year and surprise, surprise, there was still a lot of corals there. We covered more of the booths, neat displays and new products in our Saturday and Sunday Livestreams so for this video we’ll be focusing on the livestock.
I can’t say there were any particular best in show coral frags or colonies, but we’re still seeing a lot of great LPS corals, zoanthid strains, and still a steady supply of near Goniopora colors and varieties. One thing that was very cool to see is a quite a decent number of exotic fish including clownfish strains, gem tangs, and a whole menageries of funky rare fish at the Iconic Aquariums booth.
What was a delight for Reefapalooza New York this year is a whole buncha affordable frags of large sizes and great deals. Like I mentioned in the video I really tried to resist the urge to bring home corals but once I found a single coral I had to get for my home reef, the buying spree was on.
I didn’t get anything ‘special’ per se, just some nice size, nice color and fair priced shrooms, zoas, chalices and a green Capnella coral from Taiwan. As the Reefapalooza franchise has picked up momentum by having three shows per year, and a fourth one added next year, it’s only a matter of time until we’ll enter a non-stop reef aquarium conference cycle.
