We love LED lights, and T5 fluorescents have many benefits, but there’s not nearly enough choice when it comes to bringing together these two important technologies. I have the best intentions when trying my hand at a DIY project. In reality, the hardest part for me is actually committing to doing it so instead, we turned to the experts for advice.
NanoBox Reef has been updating current, older and dilapidated aquarium lights for years. What started as DIY projects for customers has expanded to RETRO kits for all-in-one hoods, T5 units and DIY canopies. NanoBox Reef makes it easy by offering multiple options to breathe life into most hoods or units. The kits come in a variety of sizes to fit specific tanks like the Biocube 32g, Biocube 29g, Biocubes 16g, Sunpower T5’s. Every kit is 90% complete, which makes installation a breeze.
If you choose the high-end models, “Plus M,” they feature wireless control, five channel dimming and the signature NanoBox Reef blend of LEDs. The next tier is the “Basic RETRO Kit.” This is a great throwback to the early days of reefing for those seeking retro authenticity.
They may not have control over dimming and lighting schedules, but we all got along just fine in the past. These plug-and-play units are able to achieve a classic 14 kelvin look using a blend of Philips and SEMILED diodes. The light can be used with a wall timer or WiFi AC outlet to control on/off times.
It is great to see a company catering to customers that want to keep the stock look of their original tank by allowing an easy upgrade path to current generation lighting. If you are interested in more information head over to the NanoBox Reef website.
