The oceans are a strange and wondrous place. While we’re drawn by the beautiful and colorful creates of the reef, there are some creatures that just defy explanation. Take for instance Roman Fedortsov, a Russian fisherman who has built quite a following on Instagram and Twitter, not for sharing his harrowing tales of life on the sea, but his ability to find some of they strangest creatures in the ocean and take pictures to share with all of us.
Although they say beautify is in the eye of the beholder, but the critters he encounters sure do make us even question this idiom. If you’re not familiar with Fedortsov, then scroll down or visit his profiles … but you might not want to do it right before lunch. He’s got a playful way about his posts and for someone who’s English is a second language, his humor is spot on. Take for instance this post, where he jokingly warns, “Hello everyone! I will be at sea for 2,5 months. Without internet(((. See you in late autumn. I hope you will like my new photos! Good luck!”

Here are five of our favorites! Make sure you check them all out over on Instagram.
- A Frilled Shark — According to Oceana, the Frilled Shark is, “…a strange, prehistoric-looking shark that lives in the open ocean and spends much of its time in deep, dark waters far below the sea surface.” This fella gives JAWS some competition.
